Japanese flashcards that stick

Most flashcard apps make you flip a card and guess whether you knew it. Manekko asks you to type the answer, reads it aloud in a native voice, and brings back the ones you miss at just the right time.

๐Ÿ”Š Tap any card to hear it read aloud.

How Manekko flashcards work

ๆ‰“

Type, donโ€™t flip

You build every answer yourself instead of flipping a card and guessing whether you knew it. Typing makes it stick.

่ž

Hear every card

Each card is read by a native Japanese voice, so you learn the pronunciation along with the meaning.

็ถš

Spaced repetition

Cards you find hard come back sooner, and easy ones less often, so your practice time goes where it is needed.

ใ‚

No Japanese keyboard needed

Type romaji on any keyboard (like โ€œkaโ€) and it turns into ใ‹ as you type.

Questions

Are these Japanese flashcards free?

Yes. Everything on Manekko today is free: beginner phrases, hiragana and katakana, counters, Kanji N5 and JLPT decks from N5 to N1.

How is Manekko different from Anki or Quizlet?

Anki and Quizlet are general flashcard tools where you build or find your own decks. Manekko is made for Japanese: the decks are ready-made, every card has native audio, and you type the answer so it is checked for you.

Do I need to know hiragana first?

It helps, but you can start straight away. Hints show the romaji and kana whenever you get stuck, and there is a hiragana sprint to learn the alphabet. See our hiragana chart.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Manekko works in any browser on phone, tablet or computer, and your progress is saved to your account.
